Compare your next job opportunity with a clear shortlist

A practical checklist for experienced candidates comparing scope, working arrangements, compensation, and application progress.

Start with the work you want to do

Write down the responsibilities you want more of, the skills you want to use, and the working arrangements you can accept. Compare the description with those priorities. A familiar title can describe very different levels of responsibility at different companies.

Keep the facts separate from unanswered questions

Record the advertised location, contract type, experience level, salary currency, and pay period. Leave missing information as unknown. A monthly amount and an annual amount are different comparisons, and an undisclosed salary is not evidence that the role is unpaid.

Prepare evidence for the role

Choose a few relevant examples of your work and explain the problem, your contribution, and the result. Use outcomes you can substantiate. Tailor your introduction to the responsibilities in the listing instead of repeating a generic career summary.

Track the action you actually took

Following an application link is not the same as sending an application. After applying externally, record the date and your next step. Keep recruiter replies and your own status notes distinct so that a saved role is never mistaken for an active application.
